Building drought-resilient farming from the soil up.
About us
Reducing agricultural water stress through materials science.
Founder Satoshi Hidaka previously developed hydrogel technology at a healthcare startup. Learning about the challenges facing agriculture in arid regions of the United States led him to apply that experience to water stress in farming.
Water stress is not limited to arid regions. In Japan, changing rainfall patterns and the cost and labor of irrigation also affect growers. Teraform is developing SuperSponge, a naturally derived soil water-retention material, and testing it in the field to help crops grow with less water.

SuperSponge
Soil water-retention material
SuperSponge is a water-absorbing polymer made from 100% naturally derived materials. Mixed into soil, it stores water and releases it as the soil dries, helping retain moisture around crop roots. We are developing it to reduce irrigation demands and avoid leaving microplastics in the soil.
