Dry
In dry conditions, SuperSponge remains compact within the soil.
SuperSponge is a water-absorbing polymer made from 100% naturally derived materials. Mixed into soil, it absorbs rain and irrigation water and releases moisture as the soil dries. By retaining water around crop roots, it is intended to support growth under water stress and heat while reducing irrigation volume and labor. We are developing it to biodegrade through soil microorganisms without leaving microplastics behind.

In dry conditions, SuperSponge remains compact within the soil.

It absorbs rain or irrigation water, expands and retains moisture near crop roots.

As the surrounding soil dries, it gradually releases the moisture it holds.

Mixed into soil, SuperSponge absorbs rain and irrigation water and holds it close to crop roots. It releases moisture as the soil dries, supporting crop growth.

Expansion during absorption and contraction during release create pore space and promote aggregate formation associated with soil aeration and water retention.

Naturally derived material biodegrades through soil microorganisms over approximately six to twelve months, supporting a soil environment where a diverse microbial community can remain active.

By keeping moisture in the soil for longer, SuperSponge can reduce irrigation volume by up to 40%, helping lower routine labor and irrigation costs.
